Govt looks into other quarantine facilities for Tonga

The National Emergency Management Committee (NEMC) are considering other quarantine facilities in Tonga to house repatriating passengers in the government’s efforts in bringing home Tongans stranded abroad.
The Minister of MEIDECC and chair of the NEMC – Poasi Tei says, the Taliai military camp will house the second incoming repatriation flight from New Zealand and are also considering the Kupesi Hotel, Makeke of the LDS Church and the Indoor Stadium.
He added, there will be talks with locals of these areas to ensure they receive factual information about these flights and they will ensure to stay away from these facilities during the quarantine period.
Meanwhile the Acting Deputy Police Commissioner, ‘Atunaisa Taumoepeau in a press conference this morning says, the roads around the ‘Atele Indoor Stadium also around the Kupesi hotel will not be blocked as they are located further away from the roads.
Around two thousand stranded Tongans have registered online for these repatriation flights.
