Construction of TBC new building completed

The Tonga Broadcasting Commission marked the completion of its new building and the official handover of keys and Maintenance Manual from the government of Japan to the Minister of MEIDECC to which the project is under.

The ceremony was attended by the Japanese Ambassador to Tonga HE Tetsuya Ishii and the Minister of MEIDECC Hon. Poasi Tei.

In his remarks, Japan’s Ambassador to Tonga – H.E. Tetsuya Ishii says, the project aims to assist the with the commission’s News responsibilities and lessen help with its telecommunications.

The project is worth up to 56 million pa’anga and according to Ishii the construction project was delayed due to tropical cyclone Harold and the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, MEIDECC Minister Poasi Tei says that the building’s new technological advancements will help the commission carry out its duties in broadcasting news to the public.

The construction project has built in features that allows the building to withstand natural disasters such as cyclones and Tsunamis.
