Tonga’s Prime Minister has called on Tongan alumni of Australian Awards scholarships to be “catalysts of change” in a future made uncertain by COVID-19, during a program yesterday to congratulate Tongan graduates.

In his remarks, Dr. Pohiva Tu’ionetoa says, they have returned to Tonga to help build the country’s future which has been made uncertain and difficult by COVID-19.

He told the graduates that their Australian qualifications will make a positive contribution to Tonga’s development.

Meanwhile, Siniva Samani, who graduated with a Master’s in Education from the University of Sydney, spoke on behalf of the graduates and said that the Australian government’s assistance has benefitted Tonga and that as Tongan citizens they are grateful and indebted to the country’s government.

Yesterday’s program was held at the Australia’s High Commissioner to Tonga’s residence along with many graduates.
