Cabinet last week approved the extension of the Declaration of Public Health Emergency and the Declaration of COVID-19 to be an Emergency Notifiable Condition for the next six months.
The renewal of the declarations was effective last Saturday 12th of September and is now extended until the 12th of March 2021.
The Health Minister – Dr. ‘Amelia Tu’ipulotu during a press conference this morning says, these are two very important declarations to protect Tonga’s borders from Covid-19.
Dr. ‘Amelia says, if COVID-19 reaches our shores, they will then thoroughly assess the case and will make amendments to the current restrictions especially with mass gatherings and curfew hours.
It has now been six months since the border closure due to coronavirus and the Health Director – Dr. Siale ‘Akau’ola says, there’s still a need to raise the bar for awareness from COVID-19 in Tonga and should not be neglected.
Health Director says, he is delighted with how many people are complying with the restrictions and hopes they will continue to do so in the future.
Meanwhile, the chief medical officer of the Public Health Division – Dr. Reynold ‘Ofanoa says, the 70 passengers currently quarantined at Tano’a hotel are all in a satisfactory condition.
