More grants from WB to empower TVET

The Ministry of Education and Training signed an agreement to receive a grant from the World Bank that aims to empower schools in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector at the Fa’onelua Centre.

The Education Minister – Siaosi Sovaleni signed the agreement for this grant together with the Minister of Internal Affairs – Vatau Hui and representatives from nine schools chosen by the World Bank to receive this grant as it aims to assist the vocation school which includes Tourism and Hospitality, Electricity, Butchery, Construction, Maritime and age care.

Hon. Minister says the grant was made possible through Tongan government’s collaboration with the World Bank and this is not the first time for the World Bank to assist education in Tonga as they’ve been working collaboratively for many years and it has still ongoing.

Part of this grant aims to ensure that no one is left behind in the TVET sector for a better Tonga in the future.

Through this signed agreement, the World Bank release the first $60,000pa’anga for these schools for the first six months and the bank will review, if the money was used accordingly to their conditions; then they will release the next $60,000 pa’anga.

This program is expected to commence in the next three months.
