57 issued with traffic infringement notices

Last week, close to 60 people were handed infringement Notices for breaking the new Traffic and Road Safety Acts which were enforced on October 1st this year.
In a statement from Police, the Acting Deputy Police Commissioner – Tevita Vailea says, a total of 57 people were issued with Infringement Notices from October 1st to the 4th in Tongatapu.
He adds, 16 out the 57 were for failure to wear a seatbelt, 14 for speeding, 7 for failure to show a driver’s license, 7 for non-compliance with the quarterly license of their vehicle, 4 for unlicensed driving, 1 for using a mobile phone while driving and other issued notices such as giving police false information, driver playing loud music, non-essential lights from vehicle and refusal to take a breath test.
At the same time under the Traffic Regulations, 12 people were issued Infringement Notices for traffic violations such as illegal parking, failure to have vehicle inspected and failure to install proper lights.
