One hundred and fifty seasonal workers are scheduled to depart to Australia this month for the fruit picking program in Queensland Australia.
The CEO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Dr Fotu Fisi’iahi says, this comes as Australia is in need of seasonal workers from the kingdom and that 150 workers are ready to travel on the 29th of this month.
He added, these workers have worked in Australia before and were unable to carry on due to the border closures which kept them in the kingdom, but they now have the opportunity to take part in the program once again.
Fisi’iahi also gave an update on the Tongan seasonal workers stranded in Australia, saying that some have resumed work while others want to return due to family issues as well as wanting to take a break.
This is the peak season for fruit picking and the Tongan seasonal workers have the opportunity to capitalize on it.
