Water tanks distribute to the constituencies

Today the Prime Minister marked the beginning of the government’s project in providing water tanks to different districts in the kingdom, this project is under the Ministry of MEIDECC. A total of 500 water tanks destined for the 10 constituencies in Tongatapu.
It is understood, this is one of the urgent needs of the people of Tonga, as discovered during the Cabinet’s visit earlier in the year as well as from different reports from Members from Parliament from their constituencies.
The Prime Minister – Dr. Pohiva Tu’ionetoa says, water is important for daily needs and hopes these water tanks will be of great benefit in preparation for COVID-19.
This national project is expected to distribute water tanks to the residents that are yet to have a water tank.
It is estimated that over 6,000water tanks will be distributed throughout Tonga, and today 500 water tanks were at Fa’onelua to mark the commencement of the project as these will be distributed amongst the 10 constituencies in Tongatapu.
Meanwhile, the CEO of MEIDECC – Paula Ma’u says, 48% of water supplies were impacted by Tropical Cyclone Harold and according to world standards this is a high number.
This project is expected to be completed by next year unless there are changes.
