Arrests for breaching Road Safety Acts decrease

Police have recorded a decrease in the number of offenders of the new Road Safety Acts.
This includes a decrease in the number of people being fined for violating the law for seatbelt and using communication devices while driving shows more people complying with the two new Acts.
This statistic was confirmed this morning by the Head of the Traffic Division of the Nuku’alofa Police Station – Inspector Lemoto Piliu.
Last week, Police issued 57 infringement Notices as they began enforcing the new Traffic Act 2020 .
Of the 57 Notices issued, 16 were for failure to wear a seatbelt, 14 for speeding, 7 for failure to show a driver’s license, 7 non-compliance with quarterly license of vehicle, 4 for unlicensed driving, and one for using a mobile phone while driving.
