Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 23/10/2020

Members of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga (FWC) are dedicating this week and next week to mark the 45th anniversary since the appearance of the mysterious cross at the George Tupou 1 Memorial Church in Pangai Ha’apai.

The Director of the Christian Education Department – Fili Lilo says, the cross signifies an act of repentance and today’s cleaning up program is also in support of the government’s efforts to keep Tonga clean. Not only that, but also to support the ban of single-use plastic, as a way to combat climate change in Tonga.

This was also echoed and supported by the Head Tutor of Sia’atoutai – Visa Taufu’i.

This program is also being held in the outer islands and is in collaboration with the Waste Management Authority and Tofa Ramsay Shipping, in their efforts to ship rubbish from the outer islands as part of keeping Tonga clean and beautiful.

This cleaning campaign will be held again tomorrow by different churches in their respective villages and coastal areas.
