New electricity tariff delayed
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 23/10/2020
The new electricity tariff is delayed from this month to next month due to the increase in fuel prices during the September quarter.
This is an increase from the current electricity tariff of 61.02 seniti per kilowatts to 63.82 seniti per kilowatts, which will be effective on the 1st of November.
During the period between July and September, the price for fuel increased from 1 pa’anga 12 seniti per litre to 1 pa’anga 24 seniti per litre.
In a press release from Tonga Power Limited, the increase was scheduled to be effective on the 1st of this month, but was delayed due to the approval process taking longer than expected.
The overall Power Generation from Renewable Energy (RE) Sources is only 14% of the total monthly power generation, which is also included in this tariff calculation.
