Cook Island’s Prime Minister installed as 23rd Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific

Hon. Henry Puna has been installed the 23rd Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific(USP).
USP Website reported, the inauguration ceremony was conducted during the University’s graduation in Laucala last month.
Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Puna says a lot of the Pacific Islands, Tongans included are taking full advantage of the USP campus there particularly those who are looking for second chances to better their lives with education.
An issue of interest mentioned by Hon. Puna is how USP member countries financially support the University.
He also confirmed that the University’s finance is in a very good position at the moment and even “probably the best it can be”.
The Chancellor position is elected annually by the University’s Council in which the 20th Chancellor was His Majesty King Tupou VI in 2013.
USP’s first ever Chancellor was His Late Majesty, King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV.
The University of the South Pacific was set up in 1968 and membered by 12 Pacific Countries, Tonga included.
Currently about 800 students are enrolled at the University’s ‘Atele Campus.
Its Acting Director is Dr. Se’ula Fonua, she was acting as Director in light of the completion of the contract of the Former Director Dr. ‘Ana Koloto.
Tonga Campus education programs includes certificates up to MBA degree in Business Administration and Education.
