Crown Princess and Prince Taufa’āhau marked Tonga’s first TUK TUK vehicle

H.R.H. Crown Princess Sinaitakala and H.R.H. Prince Taufa’āhau Manumataongo launched Tonga’s first TUK TUK vehicle on Saturday.
Marking the new development, H.R.H. Crown Princess Sinaitakala and H.R.H. Prince Taufa’āhau Manumataongo took a ride on the TUK TUK along the Vuna Road from Kolomotu’a to downtown Nuku’alofa.
The owner of the Solar Island Technology, Dr. Luka Muller says, Tonga is the first in the world to use the TUK TUK vehicle as a pilot project from the company.
TUK TUK is a solar powered vehicle that heavily relies on the sun for its operation.
Tonga was chosen for the initiative because of its unlimited accessible to the sun energy.
It is also to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels.
Similar projects are expected to follow including solar boats and refrigerators.
The Acting CEO of MEIDECC – Andrew To’imoana praised the initiative and said, it will help the government’s role in protecting the environment from the impacts of climate change.
Solar Island Technology handed over two TUK TUK vehicle to the government to mark the milestone on Saturday.
The blessing of the TUK TUK was led by the Secretary of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga – Rev. Dr. Tevita Havea.
