Queen Nanasipau’u commissioned the ground breaking ceremony of the 2MW solar farm

Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u commissioned the ground breaking ceremony of the Singyes 2 megawatt solar farm this morning and the new common utilities office in Matatoa.
The solar farm is a 25 years Power Purchase Agreement between the Tonga Power Limited and the Zhuhai Singyes Green Technology a Power Producer from China.
They will construct the solar facility in Tongatapu.
The project is funded entirely by the Zhuhai Singyres at a cost of more than TOP$10 million.
Speaking at the ceremony the Minister of Public Enterprises – Hon. Poasi Tei says this is the largest solar farm in Tonga and there’s hope the initiative will reduce the reliance of diesel.
It is also to coincide with Tonga’s commitment to use renewable energy.
This morning also marked the ground breaking of the new common utilities office block for the Tonga Power, Water Board, Home Gas and Waste Authority – Utility Board.
The Minister says this project is to be built like a one stop shop to make payment and services easier for the public.
Chinese Ambassador to Tonga H.E. Huang Hua Guang praised Tonga and China’s relationship and hoped it will continue to prosper in the future.
The dedication prayer was conducted by the Royal Chaplain – Rev. Dr. ‘Ahio.
