7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Solomon Islands

The 7.8 quake that shook the Solomon Islands this morning did not affect Tonga according to Moleni Tu’uholoaki of the MET office.
Spokesman for the Meteorology department said there was a tsunami alerts were made to places along the coasts of Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea. Nauru, New Caledonia. Tuvalu and Kosrae this morning but nothing happened.
The epicentre of the quake was off Kirakira, capital of the Makira and Ulawa province.
New Zealand Civil Defense said there was a “potential marine and beach threat” for New Zealand.
