A NZ company with Tongan counterparts to carry out renovation of the rugby field at Teufaiva

A NZ construction company with a local counterpart is the likely choice to carry out the renovation of the rugby field at Teufaiva to reach professional standards.
The Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni told Radio and Television Tonga News they’re awaiting the final agreement between the company and the Ministry of Finance before the work starts.
This comes after CEO of Wales Rugby Union, Martyn Phillipes told Planet Rugby that there is much to be completed by Tonga.
Tonga is to host Wales in July whereas Government hopes to step up the work during ongoing talks of uncertainty over the venue.
The Deputy Prime Minister says they need to ensure that the bidding company can carry out the renovation appropriately which includes construction of drainage in the field, training of a grounds keeper and others.
Renovation will also include maintenance of the changing rooms and toilet facilities which can be carried out by a local company.
He says although the invitation for bids was international, the successful company must have a local contact or agency.
A previous survey was conducted by Welsh authorities in Tonga and showed satisfaction over medical issues, accommodation and others, BUT they still need a special chartered flight to stand by in case of serious emergencies.
Work is underway to start the work but the Deputy Prime Minister is confident that it will be completed in time.
