Langafonua ‘A fafine Tonga competition starts today

The Tongan traditional crafts and handicrafts competition and exhibition for members of Langafonua ‘a e fafine Tonga Association, together with other women started today in Nuku’alofa.
The program was initiated to help Tongan women collect their valuable Tongan crafts which are our national treasure and pride for our traditional responsibilities (fatongia) and to be prepared when the need arises such as weddings, birthdays, funerals etc.
The exhibition displays various handicrafts made from local materials such as pandanus and paper mulberry. The displays are also in the forms of competitions for various pieces of handicrafts.
It will continue tomorrow with the prize giving ceremony to be awarded on Saturday.
Langafonua ‘a e Fefine Tonga was established by Her Late Majesty Queen Salote Tupou 3rd during the 1950’s to help women of Tonga develop their talents and fulfill their various obligations to the family, church and community.
