Body of warm water in the Niuas brings warmer temperature to all of Tonga

The Body of warm water in the Niuas brings warmer temperatures to all of the Kingdom. Acting Director of Tonga’s MET office, Moleni Tu’uholoaki said, the temperature of this particular body of warm water is from 30-31 degrees Celsius.
This warm water is also known as the line of maximum sea surface temperature.
It is currently lying across the Niuas to the island of Niue.
Most islands can feel this warm temperature due to the direction of the wind which moves from the north to the south.
Moleni said the body of warm water is lying from the Northern side of Australia, Fiji and to the two Niuas. This natural phenomenon is similar to El Nino and La Nina but acts and works differently.
Despite the geographical distances between the islands of Tongatapu, Ha’apai and Vava’u from the Niuas, but they can feel the warmth of the air impacted by this warm ocean body.
He said, the warm temperature can cause tropical cyclones during this period.
The Cyclone Season is from November to April.
