Electricity tariff increased by 9 seniti

Electricity tariff is increased by 9 seniti from 74 seniti to 83 seniti per kilowatt, effective today, February 2nd.
This is due to the significant increase in the regulated price of diesel effective from January 2017.
Tonga Power Limited says, the increase is to recuperate the under recover fuel costs of TOP$2.5 million over the last 4 months since the last review in 2016.
A local businessman told Radio Tonga News, the new price will have a negative impact on their services especially with the prices of their product.
He added they pay around TOP$14,000 per month for their electricity.
‘Aho Kilisimasi Kolomalu and a woman from Haveluloto both said, they are not supporting the new price especially now they are trying to get their children’s accessories for this new academic year with their school fees but its a pity they do not have a voice on this tariff rise.
Meanwhile a young man in the Nuku’alofa area said he supports the increase on electricity tariff and urged people to work harder in order to meet the financial costs of electricity and other needs.
