Class 6 of Tonga Side School Nuku’alofa branch to move to Tokomololo
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 10/02/2017
Parents of Tonga Side School’s class 6 were called to an unexpected meeting yesterday to inform them of the Ministry of Education’s decision to move all class 6 students from the Nuku’alofa Branch to Tokomololo.
This is due to the Government’s move to commence the construction work for the South Pacific Games 2019.
Some parents say a notification on the decision should have been given to them earlier and they believe that Tokomololo is much farther from town because most of the students are from the Nuku’alofa area.
Parents believe this is not convenient because most parents are working and they drop off their children to school at 7 in the morning, they are concern whether if they drop off their children to Tokomololo, will it be safe for them, considering the environment.
They also propose that the students must be moved to Ngele’ia instead of Tokomololo as it is closer to town, not just that but several children are familiar with the school environment.
HOWEVER a reliable source told Radio Tonga News – this new move has been halted after parents raise their concern to the Acting Prime Minister – Siaosi Sovaleni.
Radio and TV Tonga News contacted the Ministry of Education for a comment on the issue but no one is available.
Meanwhile information from The Ministry of Internal Affairs says work to vacate the area is underway – before the Chinese team arrive Tonga from China to start the construction work in March.
Tonga Side School premises will be used for the construction of the balling venue, tennis and a netball court, a rugby field, swimming pool and other sporting venues for the upcoming Pacific Games in 2019.
While in Tonga the Chinese team will sign the contract for the construction work.
