FWC holds census next week to determine over 3000 difference in church membership
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 13/02/2017
There was a huge gab in the census of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga in 2012 compared to the national census both held in 2011.
The difference is 3,379.
The national census recorded 36,592 members of the church while the census by the church only recorded a total of 3,3213 members including members living overseas.
In the monthly newsletter of the church tohi fanongonongo it states the differences in numbers could only occur when people migrate overseas, death or move to another denomination.
The article reports that the church officials do not believe that the reasons already cited for the difference will be as much as three thousand.
So the church census is to provide Ministers with factual information about church membership, the religious status of members such as Lay preachers, youth or Sunday school members etc.
The FWC census will be held on February 21and heads of families are being urged to participate so accurate and trust worthy information are collected for the planning of spiritual activities appropriate for all levels of believers.
