Government is reviewing ways to disseminate information to everyone in the fastest way

The Government is currently reviewing ways to help disseminate the information once to everyone and in the fastest way possible. Deputy Prime Minister – Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni said, because there are so many Radio broadcasting Stations in Tonga, Government prioritizes the AM Radio Station because of its nationwide reach during times of emergencies and disasters.
Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni said, if a target audience is using an FM station to listen to other programs, how will they get informed about the disasters and emergencies?
They are now looking at ways of providing information at once, to all Radio Stations.
Sione Moala Mafi Acting CEO of Tourism said they prioritize the vital roles of the Radio not only in times of Emergencies but to deliver messages on how to keep Tonga Clean and Green.
Programs are broadcast to help the public work together to keep our environment clean and healthy.
A caller from Nomuka on the Talk Back show yesterday, said their only means of knowing information in Nuku’alofa is through Radio Tonga 1, which broadcasts on Medium Wave.
The government is working on a project to get a new transmitter for Radio Tonga to replace its ailing one which has been in operation for over thirty years.
The government of Australia funded the current transmitter after Cyclone Isaac in 1982 damaged the first transmitter
The TOP$1million project sought by government from its development partners is for a new transmitter which is expected to arrive in May this year.
