PNG Sport Minister pledged TOP$34million to support Tonga in preparation for the Pacific Games 2019
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 15/02/2017
PNG Sports Minister has confirmed an estimate of TOP$34 million has been set aside to support Tonga in our preparation to host the Pacific Games.
Reports in an EM TV programme quoted Prime Minister Peter O’Neill as well as the National Executive Council as saying they had been presented with an overall costing of expenses for the sports project.
The sports minister has said that with the PNG economy in a downturn, and elections on the horizon, the commitment at the moment was domestic, but that they would still offer assistance to Tonga.
Information from Prime Minister’s Office says the pledge comes with conditions yet to be concluded.
Sports Director at the Ministry of Internal Affairs says a PNG delegation was scheduled to visit Tonga in January for the final negotiation and signing but no further word has been received.
