Address from the Throne hopes that parliament should focus more on developments that benefits the general public

The Legislative Assembly was officially closed this morning with a soft ceremony featuring the three members of the nobility who presented His Majesty’s address from the throne, His Serene Highness Prince Tungi, Lord Luani and Lord Fakatulolo.
His Serene Highness, Prince Tungi read the address from His Majesty saying, many accomplishments have been achieved throughout the year, YET it is important that all attention must be directed towards betterment of the general public.
This includes, solidarity amongst the people of Tonga, improvement in education, boosting economic and social status of the Nation.
Prince Tungi also says, foreign aid has been recognized as an important mechanism FOR development.
The address from His Majesty also conveys appreciation from the Royal Family to all Tongans for their love and support during the occasion of the Passing of Her Late Majesty the Queen Mother.
After the address, the Speaker of Parliament – Lord Tuivakano says, Members have reached the end of the Parliamentary session for 2016 – 2017.
Therefore, the house will resume on June 1st for the 2017-2018 sitting of the Legislative Assembly, and the first agenda to be addressed will focus on the budget for the next fiscal year.
