His Majesty King VI arrived Niuatoputapu

His majesty King Tupou VI arrived in Niuatoputapu today after departing Vava’u by plane.
Governor of Vava’u Lord Fulivai and the islanders yesterday presented the traditional gifts or ha’unga – which includes huge pigs and Tongan kava roots to the Puataukanave hotel where His Majesty is residing.
The ritual was led by the talking chief Fonua pe Tangata and was welcomed by Uhi.
His Majesty today headed to Niuatoputapu to observe several projects in the Northern islands and is accompanied by members of his Armed Forces.
Voea Pangai also departs Vava’u to Niuatoputapu with 10 officers from His Majesty’s Armed Forces.
Radio Tonga’s correspondent in the island Louina Pongi reports, His Majesty was welcomed at the airport by the Government Representative Feinga ‘Iloa and Lord Tangipa before heading to the royal residence in Hihifo.
It followed a Thanksgiving prayer led by the Free Wesleyan Church Minister of Vaipoa and church members.
Other programs include presentation of traditional gifts from the children and estates of the Late Lord Ma’atu, led by Hon. Sione Ikamafana Tuita and Hon. ‘Etani Tuku’aho.
Their presentations included fine mats, tapa and others.
