Tolu’ihai e ‘Otumu’omu’a group assists Fonoifua Island after heavy flood last two weeks

Tolu’i Hai of ‘Otumu’omu’a from the United States of America sent food donation to Fonoifua after the island went through its worst flood in years.
MV ‘Otuanga’ofa last night left with the goods including sugar, flour, rice and crackers amongst other food products for the island.
Mele Moala of the group from the United States told Radio Tonga News some of the donation will benefit Islanders of Mango and Nomuka although they were not affected by this natural hazard.
She said she cried when she saw homes in Fonoifua on the social media being almost immersed in water.
Members of the group were encouraged by memory of their roots from the island.
Feleti Faha’ivalu town officer of Fonoifua and Sulaki Kafoika of Mango island appreciated the donation saying they were unexpected and has helped facilitate daily needs of families on the island.
More than 25 families live in both islands.
A TOP$500.00 donation was also presented to the teachers in Fonoifua including renovation of their homes that were worst affected.
Two homes in Nomuka were also part of the assistance and will be renovated amongst other projects.
Tolu’i Hai of Otumu’omu’a earlier donated a refrigeration unit for preserving the dead, waters for the islands and will later extend their stall for marketing at Nomuka.
