30 to 40% of bacteria in Tonga can no longer be treated by medical treatment used in Vaiola

About 30 – 40% of the bacteria that normally detected in Vaiola Hospital can no longer be cured by the normal medical treatment used at the Hospital.
This is referred to medical treatments commonly used such as antibiotics that cure various infections, pneumonia and others.
Dr. Siale ‘Akau’ola – Director of Health – told Radio Tonga News it is therefore important that the public prioritize hygiene at all times.
He says in previous years, they use cloxillin to cure several infections, but now they have to look for new antibiotic to cure this.
Their other options would be, to seek expensive medical treatments from overseas.
He also calls on the public on the importance of seeking medical help from Vaiola in an early stage, rather than waiting until the problems worsen.
Dr. Siale ‘Akauola concluded by urging the public to be more careful especially parents, to make sure that they wash their hands with soap after cleaning up infections of their children.
Dr. Siale ‘Akauola also call on his staff to ensure that the area and equipment used to treat the patients are clean at all times, to reduce the risk of bacteria spreading.
