There is hope Tonga will achieve this year’s theme for celebrating International Day of Sport today which is “Sports for Development and Peace”.
Speaking to Radio and Television Tonga News, ‘Onetoto ‘Anisi the Deputy Director for the Ministry of Internal Affair’s Sports division says, Tonga needs to take this year’s theme in to consideration.
He says, overseas, sports not only promote healthy lifestyle but it also promotes peace, tolerance and solidarity among the participants, fans and people all over the world.
But in Tonga it’s in the other way round, where sports often times causes violence and anti-social behaviors s.
‘Onetoto says, there’s hope today will change this because for now, the students are just representing their schools during sports competitions but when they travel overseas they represent the country.
He therefore called on the people of Tonga to work together in order to address this issue because the youth of today that are causing troubles are the future of our nation.
However a program will be held this evening at BSP bank’s netball court called the “COME AND TRY” program.
Where 7 different sports will be conducted and will be participated by various sports teams as well as secondary school’s sports team that will compete in this year’s Inter College Competition.
