“You sweat for your bread” was the theme of the Yam harvest celebration of the ‘Alo’ofa ta’engata group of the Free Wesleyan Church of Vaini which was held last Saturday.
The 22 members of the ‘Alo’ofa ta’engata group and their families special yam harvest program was graced by the presence Hon. Siosaia Lausi’i Ma’afu and Hon. Tevita ‘Unga Junior as Guests of Honours.
Sione Falemanu leader of the group and the Chief Lay Leader of the church said the yam harvest has assured that members and their families will be able to have abundant and sustainable food supplies.
Falemanu said it’s important for the members to reap what they have with the efforts and hard work of their own hands, and to become self-reliant instead of relying on others for food supplies following the teachings of the gospel.
Meanwhile the church Minister – Rev. Melemalinga Mausia says this is the first combined Yam plantations of the church members and is supported by many people in the community which is a good sign of team work.
Another church member – Seini Lousa Pasa says this is a good program, as every member of the church enjoyed the spirit of hard work and team work.
The program started with a prayer service then was followed with the inspection of the yams by the guests.
