Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 11/04/2017

Possession of the illicit drug marijuana is becoming a norm as four people were arrested by police during the past few days.

Worst still is the underage involvement with drugs where police arrested and have charged a 14-year-old student for the possession of marijuana.

Acting Chief Superintendent of the Nuku’alofa Police Station Tevita Vailea said, last week they also arrested a 31-year-old  woman of Tokomololo and charged with possession of marijuana.

Two others, a 17-year-old of Kolonga and a 36-year-old man of Houmakelikao have also been charged with possession of the drug.

The average of marijuana seized ranged from 11 to 96 grams.

Vailea is urging the public to be more cautious in controlling and screening their children in relation to the illegal use of illicit drugs and alcohol.
