Revenue and Customs continue collecting its multi million pa’anga surplus with TOP$14 million during the first quarter of 2017
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 11/04/2017
Ministry of Revenue and Customs has recorded a TOP$14 million surplus during the first Quarter of this year.
Minister Hon. Dr. Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa said, the target was TOP$129 million BUT they were able to collect TOP$147 million by the last day of March.
The first quarter’s surplus exceeds the sum collected during the same time last year.
This is due to revenue collected from duties and taxes on more imported goods such as heavy machinery and facilities for the major constructions underway in downtown, electronic materials, clothing, food items and to name a few.
Most of these imported items were from New Zealand, Australia, America and China.
HOWEVER there’s only one more quarter to go before the completion of the 2016/2017 fiscal year and the Ministry targets at achieving TOP$20 million surplus by June 30th.
