Fekita ‘Utoikamanu first Tongan appointed as High Representative of many states to the United Nation

Despite Tonga’s geographical size and is a small developing state but the knowledge and experiences of its people are being recognized internationally.
Fekita ‘Utoikamanu current CEO of Tourism, has been appointed as HIGH REPRESENTATIVE of the United Nations for three special group of countries of the world, including the Least Developed Countries, landlocked developing countries and small islands developing states – SIDS.
Information from UN’s local Coordinator – Milika Tuita confirms to Radio Tonga News – Fekita is the first Pacific Islander and Tongan to be appointed by the Secretary General to such high ranking positions at the UN.
Mrs. ‘Utoikamanu was appointed last January as CEO of Tourism.
She will take with her to the UN her wealth of national, regional and international experiences at various senior leadership levels.
She was previously Acting Pro-chancellor and Chair of the Council of the University of the South Pacific in 2015 also Deputy Pro-chancellor of USP in 2009 until last yea,- 2016.
She was also Deputy Director General and Director of Education, Training and Human Development of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community SPC from 2009 – 2015.
She was appointed Permanent Representative and Ambassador of the Government of Tonga to the United Nations – US, Cuba and Venezuela.
Fekita was also Tonga’s High Commissioner to Canada from 2005 – 2009 and Secretary for Foreign Affairs and European Commission’s National Authorizing Officer for Tonga in 2002 – 2005.
