More than 100 people arrested last week for various offenses

Police arrested 176 people last week for various offenses in the Nuku’alofa Area only.
This included the arrests made by Police during their Special Operation on the Easter holiday.
The operation started on Maundy Thursday or last Thursday night and completed this morning.
Acting Chief Superintendent of the Nuku’alofa Police station- Tevita Vailea said majority of the offenses are related to breaching the transportation act.
There were minor road accidents recorded with minimum damage.
The offenses included breaching the law for public order in relation to illicit drugs and alcohol.
Police arrested 3 people for possession of marijuana.
In the Crime Report from the Nuku’alofa Area, assault and theft were on the rise. Most of those arrested were males.
Police continue their normal routine work of trying to maintain peace and security in Tonga.
