Tonga records 12 cases of typhoid to date
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 18/04/2017
It is prohibited for anyone from a village with an active typhoid case to travel to another village for food catering or to drink Tongan kava with people on a different village.
This follows the confirmation of a new case recorded going up from 11 to 12 this week since January.
The youngest age is a 5-year-old child with the oldest a 62-year-old.
The temporary ban in place for typhoid has been lifted in some villages.
The ban is to protect the lives of people because typhoid is a contagious disease.
About 10 health officials are still monitoring closely the areas of active cases.
Tonga is currently doing its best to combat the outbreak of typhoid.
