Ministry of Agriculture is recording slight changes on this year’s Royal Agricultural Show’s programs and competitions.
It is aimed at empowering growers, fishermen and handicraft-makers.
CEO of Agriculture – Dr. Viliami Manu said, they’ve noticed the previous year’s grower’s are assessed from the beginning of their plantation such as the seedlings process to the finest produce to be displayed on the show.
On the other hand, women are bringing their finest product for the show on the final day without assessing their hard work since day one.
He said, a team from the Ministry is currently visiting Women’s group all over Tonga to encourage them to take part in the Show for they have a special competition.
Previous years women just competed individually with their finest tapas or mats but this year they can join groups and make their finest product to compete with women from other villages.
The estimated cost for this year’s Royal Agricultural Show is more than TOP$500,000.
The Show will start on the 5th of July from the island of Vava’u to be concluded in Nuku’alofa.
