Tonga becomes the first in the Region to Public Enterprises information online

Tonga is the first Pacific island country to launch a website giving access to information on state-owned enterprises.
This follows the Minister of Public Enterprises Hon. Poasi Tei launching the initiative yesterday in Nuku’alofa.
The change is in line with Tonga’s ambitions to increase transparency in government.
“As a Ministry, We are implementing an ongoing program of reforms to improve the performance of the Public enterprises and this has made our portfolio one of the best performing in the Pacific. Our government’s commitment remains strong as the launch of this website illustrates. The website will allow the public the public to have easier access to public enterprise financial results, key governance data as well as links to relevant legislation”
A reform expert from the Asian Development Bank ADB – Christopher Russell said Tonga was leading the way in the Pacific.
Tonga is the first to have her website up and running and ranking very high within the Pacific realm and internationally.
There are not many countries around the world that will have the amount of information.
In 2010 Tonga was one of the first countries to require a publication summarizing financial information on public enterprises.

Government’s responsibility is to ensure the proper stewardship of this investment.
