Electricity tariff a major issue to be regionally discussed in Nuku’alofa next week

Electricity tariff and petroleum prices are major issues that will be discussed during the third Pacific Regional Ministerial Meeting for Energy and Transport next week.
CEO of MEIDECC Paula Ma’u said, Tonga will raise the issue of electricity tariff as it is still expensive to most people in Tonga.
He said the issue will be addressed at a Regional Level and Tonga is looking to a fruitful result for the benefit of the nation as a whole.
Issues to be raised include the safety of all forms of transportation in Tonga such as the airport and ports.
Over 100 high-level delegates and experts will assemble in Nuku’alofa for the Third Pacific Regional Energy and Transport Ministerial Meeting to discuss the latest international and regional developments in energy and transport sectors affecting the region.
The Ministerial Meeting will be from the 24th to 28th.
The theme of this year’s meeting is Affordable, Reliable and Sustainable Energy and Transport Services for All, which supports the vision of Pacific energy and transport ministers of their sectors being key pillars to enable sustainable development and eradicate poverty.
