Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 20/04/2017
Real Tonga will return one of its chartered aircrafts to Australia due to financial difficulties BUT this will have no impact on the airline’s domestic flights.
CEO of Real Tonga – Tevita Palu said the Jet stream with 18 seats was not operating during the past 3 months due to the slower pace of demand for domestic flights.
The estimated cost for the monthly operation of the aircraft is about 80 thousand pa’anga.
The company is also looking at reducing the number of staff to make ends meet.
Jet stream was chartered in the past 2 years operating from Tongatapu to Vava’u and Ha’apai.
It is understood that as the inter island sea transportation services are improving, with cheaper fees, people choose to travel by ferry which is affordable.
