Prime Minister launched trial of new curriculum – Young people life education in St. Andrews this morning

Prime Minister – Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva launched this morning a new school curriculum at St. Andrew’s High School called Young People life education.
The aim of the new curriculum is to encourage young students to make right choices and to know more about themselves before making any decisions in life.
PM said it is significant for each student to know more about themselves at a young age, to know what they want to do in the future and to behave in ways that will be appropriate to their destinations in life.
Making right choices will bring better futures not only for the family, village and nation as a whole HOWEVER if the choice is wrong there will be consequences.
Young people are key and should be well taken care off as they are the future of our nation.
The founder of the curriculum- Young people life education who’s a volunteer and an ex-student Leonaitasi Hoponoa said the initiative is to empower young adults to tackle the challenges they face in life such as the negative impacts of technology, choosing alcohol as a solution, school brawls, child pregnancy, absent from school, to name a few.
Principal of the school – Mo’unga Maka said the initiative is to protect the lives of the young people of the nation at an early stage as it coincides with the school’s motto, love, truth and peace.
The curriculum will be taught at forms 1 & 2 and 5&6.
St. Andrews High School is catering for about 400 students.
Attending this morning’s program were the Minister of Public Enterprises – Hon. Poasi Tei, CEO of Internal Affairs – ‘Ana Bing Fonua, Prison Commissioner – Semisi Tapueluelu and many people.
