12-year imprisonment for robbery and assault of foreign couples

Tevita Vaka, 28-year-old has been sentenced to 12 years in jail while Rodney Toki sentenced to 6 years’ imprisonment.
They were convicted for robbery, assault, serious house break-in and causing serious damage to certain materials.
They assaulted 2 foreign couples including a Korean couple who owns a restaurant in town.
The other couple they robbed are living at Popua close to the New Zealand high Commissioner’s residence.
The two, assaulted and stole money, electronic equipment amongst others from these couples.
Justice Charles Cato says Vaka cannot receive a suspension for his sentence due to his unremorseful attitude and continuously committing offences.
