There’s hope to develop and upgrade the knowledge of militaries in regards to legal matters that cover the defense forces in deploying military forces to another country in times of crisis.
This includes internal security situation, Disaster, military sea/land exercises, maritime security and mobile training, military ship/aircraft visiting and attachments of troopers or troops to the host country.
This is the purpose of a 3 day workshop that’s underway in Nuku’alofa funded by New Zealand Defense force in co-operation with HMAF.
Participating in the workshop are representatives from foreign militaries includes Fiji, PNG, Samoa, Australia, US and HMAF.
According to Lt. Col. Lord Ve’ehala, during this workshop they will review the 1992 Defense Act that they are using, which they hope to make some amendments to.
Colonel Lisa Feris who’s leading the team from NZ says, this will benefit Tonga and other militaries in many ways but most importantly are the post workshop activities such as networking.
