The new two masted sailing vessels for the two Niuas and Tafahi will arrive Tonga towards the end of the month.
The vessel is awaiting the issuance of the international safety license before departing New Zealand for Tonga.
The vessel was constructed in a way that combined the Pacific islands traditional style with modern construction models.
Linda Manu’atu – chairlady of the steering committee says more than 6hundred thousand pa’anga was collected during the past ten years for this project.
She adds that residents in the islands should prepare agricultural produce and handicrafts for this boat to deliver to the main island to help improve the economy.
The vessel, ‘Utuma’atu was funded by overseas based people of Niua and Tafahi led by Dr. Sitiveni Halapua, former PiDP Director and Tongan former parliamentarian.
The cargo vessel has a carrying capacity of three tons of cargo including passengers during deep sea voyages.
