Cultural contest of the Heilala Week Festival 2017 kicked off last night

Cultural contest of the Heilala Week Festival 2017 kicked off last night at the Tonga National Centre with Minister of Education and Training, Hon Penisimani Fifita as guest of honor.


The traditional items included group and solo dances, mixed dance and mako.


The Miss Tau’olunga category featured seven contestants and the top three were Kylee Lefai, Danya Cocker and Sela Afu in first, second and third positions respectively.


There were 8 participants at the Miss Pre-Teen category with Erya Tu’ihalangingie of Kolompotu’a taking first prize, second was  Fisi’ipiula ‘Ete’aki  and in third place was  Mahina Tangulu.


The Miss Teen class was won by Nina Kaufusi.


Five different groups competed in the group dancing category mainly from youth organizations and schools.


Winners went to Takuilau College with TOP$1000 for first place. Tapuni Siliva high schools received TOP$800 in second place and third prize was won by the Kele’amaka group of Vaotu’u with TOP$500.


There were four groups competing in the mixed dances category with Kele’amaka Youth from Vaotu’u winning first place.  Takuilau College was in second position and the Vaisio’ata youth received third prize.


In the Mako dance category, five groups competed and top prize went to Vaisio’ata of Vaotu’u, Kele’amaka also of Vaotu’u won second prize and third place was awarded to Tapunisiliva high school.
