Remittances increased by 18% in January 2017

The total remittances recorded in January this year was over TOP$278 million.
This represents an increase of 18% according to the Budget statement for the new fiscal year.
Money sent from Australia recorded the highest amount of TOP$15 million.
The relatives in the United States of America sent just over TOP$14 million with TOP$9.7 million from NZ.
Majority of the remittances were from relatives attending the Recognized Seasonal Employment scheme in both Australia and NZ.
The remittances in January are 37% of the total revenue from foreign countries.
