Tonga marks International Day of Sustainable Tourism Development

The Hon. Prime Minister – ‘Akilisi Pohiva has called on the public to work together to boost various sectors especially tourism.

 

He highlighted the issue while formally marking the International Day of Sustainable Tourism Development, today.

 

He said when it comes to tourism our priority is to keep Tonga clean at all times to attract tourists.

 

 

The Prime minister told the gathering that we must ensure that we employ the principles of the 4 golden strands in our daily lives for that is one of the factors that draws attention of tourists to Tonga.

 

It includes RESPECT, humility, reciprocity and maintaining relationships.

 

This morning’s program also included awarding the winners of various competitions held to mark the day including poem, essay writing and speeches.

 

Poem category was won by Bob Taylor Tonga from Tonga Side School, Essay Writing went to – Jennifer Finau of Tonga High School and the speech competition was won by ‘Olive ‘Asinate Toli from Queen Salote College.

 

This is part of the many programs for the Heilala Week 2017 with the Theme “Beautiful Tonga”.
