Phishing fraud occurred again this week

Tonga’s Computer emergency response team -CERT has reported a new phishing fraud in Tonga this week.


Phishing is the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.


Director of Tonga CERT – Saia Vaipuna said they believe there are thousands of phishing scams in Tonga but people do not report them.


There’s hope with the national workshop hosted by Tonga Cert  in Nuku’alofa will help boost Tonga’s capabilities on dealing with cybercrimes with the assistance from the head of Cyber Crime of Europe – Alexander Seger.


Participating in the Workshop are representatives from Tonga Police, Internet providers, Attorney General and related stakeholders.
