Staff of the Ministry of Revenue and Customs are currently investigating all retail and wholesale shops in Tonga to ensure their records of their financial statements are up to date.
A senior Officer of the Ministry – Taniela Sila said, the operation is due to many complaints from the public regarding the services, incomplete financial statement and no record of their commodities sold.
The financial statement from every shop should provide every information regarding their services and the amount of money paid by customers as their consumption tax to the Government.
These wholesale and retail shops are mostly owned by Asian people.
The Operation is conducted by more than 20 officers and it will run for 3-4 months.
There are more than 300 wholesale shops in Tonga.
