Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 10/07/2017

The second Inter island ferry for ‘Eua has been named the MV Maui from the Royal household.

The ‘Eua People’s representative to Parliament – Hon.Tevita Lavemaau said it’s anticipated that the ferry will be commissioned next week by His Majesty during the Island’s  Royal Agricultural Show.

The new ferry is still in New Zealand to complete paper work before heading to ‘Eua.

The estimated cost is about 1.7 million pa’anga, funded by the people of ‘Eua and part loan from the Tonga Development Bank.

The new ferry has an average speed of 24 miles per hour, similar to the MV Maggie CAT’s speed.

It has a carrying capacity of 300 passengers with only 45 minutes to an hour from Tongatapu to ‘Eua and vice versa.

The new ferry is to ease the transportation needs of the people of ‘Eua.
