People from the outer islands in Popua requested for a piece of land

Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 13/07/2017

The People of Va’epopua had requested to their representative to Parliament who’s also Minister of Police and Fire – Hon. Mateni Tapueluelu to identify areas which are already leased and allotted.

This is because of urbanization and families need a piece of land for their families and their children.

Another request made was for the neglected homes to be transferred to the people that have settled in the village for years.

‘Aisake Taupeamuhu, ‘Ahovalu Lolohea and Lina Vea voiced these issues last night during the Parliamentary visit of their representative to the House.

Another local Tevita Fainga said he is worried with the new marina to be constructed in the village’s coasts because Popua can be vulnerable to drug trafficking.

He also questioned Tonga’s capabilities to protect our border.

He was concerned with the prices of imported fruits and vegetables which is exempted from excise tax, YET the price remains high with low quantity and quality.

The Hon. Minister said he will look into the matter and address it immediately.
