Tonga celebrates World Hepatitis Day Today

The Ministry of Health is urging people to make a habit of having medical checks as part of hepatitis awareness and encourage prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
This is part of the Ministry’s message to observe World Hepatitis Day today July 28th.
A spokesperson for the Ministry said, many people in Tonga are diagnosed with hepatitis from their blood.
Hepatitis viruses are the most common cause of hepatitis in the world but other infections, toxic substances and diseases can also cause hepatitis.
The 5 types of Hepatitis are of greatest concern because of the burden of illness and death they cause and the potential for outbreaks and epidemic spread.
Hepatitis affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide, causing acute and chronic diseases and killing close to 1.4 million people every year.
